what memorial do you keep with guns and dead bodies with retaliation and racism and prejudice and armies who do you remember when shooting up mosques why does honoring dead require such cost the world groans against violence its children cower with fear and yet it keeps spinning year after year and does love live in anthems when patriots preach in uncovering heads or bigoted speech is remembrance truly a war on terror does it grow as fury births a power unfettered or does memorial mean prayers of revenge of closed borders and bombs a thirst to avenge and 20 years gone but still the world spins and love still eludes us and cruelty wins but i’ve got to believe in the midst of the pain whether collateral damage or exploding planes there’s a peace hiding in young ones and rain growing flowers and trees and unfathomable change
